The Opportunity: The Engineering Geology Section of the WSDOT Geotechnical Office in Olympia, WA. provides statewide engineering geology/geological engineering design, rock engineering, landslide characterization/mitigation, unstable slopes management for 7,000 miles of highways, subsurface exploration services, construction support, and maintenance and emergency response support services for the Department through a diverse group of 22 engineering geologists, GIS analysts, field exploration specialists and technicians. The Chief Engineering Geologist acts as an assistant to the State Geotechnical Engineer and manages the Engineering Geology Section. The position is responsible for directing the execution of comprehensive engineering geology/geological engineering studies and design for project definition and scoping; aiding in the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, and estimates; proactively supporting construction and maintenance activities; as well as providing strategic and technical planning input for workforce, equipment, information technology, and work flow needs. The person serves as an Agency expert on geohazards characterization and mitigation, and plays a pivotal role in the Agency’s emergency response to landslides, rock falls, flooding, and earthquakes.
