The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers – Puget Sound Chapter (SHPE PSC) is a WA State 501(c)3 registered non-profit organization. SHPE was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.
In Seattle, WA the organization was incorporated in 1986 by the three initial serving Board of Directors compose of Mr. Frank R. Sánchez (President), Mr. Victor Elizondo (VP), and Mr. José R. Bolaños (Treasurer & Legal Representative) who incorporated the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Puget Sound Chapter.

The number of events varies per year. There are 4 General Meetings, Monthly Leadership Meetings, 3-4 k-12 Outreach Events, 1-2 Networking Events & Multiple Presentations hosted by student chapters at University of Washington and Seattle University. We expect this number to increase given a very positive increase in our membership this year.
How do you recognize the participation of volunteers and leaders?
The Chapter Awards Program recognizes the talent of volunteers and leaders in the chapter.
Do you have activities outside the Puget Sound?
Over 50 professionals from the Puget Sound Chapter attend the SHPE National Conference each year and on occasions the chapter sets special visits to a school(s) in Eastern Washington.
Where does the chapter do its community outreach?
Community Outreach is typically organized with school administrators from local schools and occasionally in conjunction with community centers.
Who attends your networking events?
Networking events are open to the whole community, and there is typically an approximate turnout of about half university students from multiple universities and community colleges and half professional members from very diverse industries.
